How to Design a Fitness Poster

The overall feel of a fitness poster needs to be inspiring. After all, you are trying to motivate people to go against their natural tendencies, such as giving up junk food and working their muscles. Below are some steps for creating and printing posters that motivate and inspire people to action.

Step One: Decide on the Message
Before you can design an effective poster, you must have a clear idea of what you want to communicate. Are you trying to get people pumped about running? Do you want them to crave healthy foods? Are you trying to encourage healthy relaxation in a yoga class? There are lots of very different fitness messages you could create, and the poster for each one would need to be just as different.

Step Two: Choose a Color Scheme
Once you have settled on your message, you can choose the colors you want to use in your poster printing. If you want to energize people, you should use bright colors like red, orange, and yellow. On the other hand, if you want to creating a calm atmosphere, stick to cool tones like blues and greens. If your message is serious, you can use black and white with splashes of red for dramatic impact. Or, if your poster is playful, you could include every color in the rainbow.

Step Three: Use One Great Image
For a poster to have the greatest impact, it is best to have one large image as the focus. If you have several smaller images with the same intensity of color, the poster will end up looking busy and will not grab the audience's attention as well. Something to remember when you are doing a poster printing is that posters are large, so the copies of the images you work with should be large as well. If you try to blow up a four by six inch photo you will end up with a very grainy, blurry poster. Size the photo in the exact size it will be in your poster, and also be sure it is at least 300 dpi.

Step Four: Integrate Text Into the Image
Posters are meant to get people's attention and should not have a lot of text. Stick to one simple message that can be communicated with a picture and just a few words. Then, integrate the text into the design. The picture is what will grab and hold people's attention, so rather than trying to divide their attention by having text on one side and a picture on the other, place the text either over the image or around it in such a way that it becomes part of the image. Remember to have a lot of contrast between the color of the text and the color of the image behind it.

Step Five: Get It Professionally Printed
Use a good poster printing company so that you design looks as amazing printed as it does on your computer. Make sure to get enough copies to distribute to all of your health club and other fitness clients. And remember that with a wholesale poster printing company, posters cost less the more you buy, so be sure to order as much as you think you'll need.
