Graphic Design Tips for Catalog Printing

A great graphic design can increase sales. In fact for some businesses, the sales generated from advertising through catalog printing have matched and even surpassed sales from brick and mortar locations.  With these design tips, you can begin increasing your catalog sales too!

Start with Quality
Set a standard for quality that matches your budget and the expectations of your customers. Different types of catalogs have different industry standards for paper and resolution quality. High resolution images on glossy, bold-colored pages work well to entice consumers in any industry.

Size It Up
Size up how large your catalog should be. An 8.5 by 11 folded in half and stapled is a good size to include in packages. Then again, detailed images of products may need to be larger and require a larger size when catalog printing. How the many items are bundled on a page will affect the overall size of the catalog as well, so consider each of these aspects and then choose appropriately.

Lay It Out
Start laying out the design of your catalog. Use the actual size of images you will need for the catalog to start arranging the pages. Include descriptions that sell your products. Then, look at each page for the overall appeal. Next, lay out a color scheme that enhances the product images throughout the catalog.

Add Style
Give the catalog style, flare, or a theme. Including a catalog printing theme adds style and makes it more fun for viewers. Common ideas are seasonal themes or product line specific themes. As much as possible, use single product photos, but when it's absolutely necessary for product group photos, consider the old Sear’s catalog method. Sears grouped as many products that they could into one great image of people enjoying them, then coded the descriptions by the alphabet.

Seek Help
If you are unsure or just have run out of creative ideas, seek a professional graphic designer to help you with catalog printing and design. There are many aspects to designing a great catalog, and a professional will take care of every aspect for you.

Finish with Success
Ensure the success of your catalog printing with this one emotion: desire. Your catalog should ideally create a desire for every product offered in it. The images, descriptions, and the presentation should increase interest in your products. And don't forget to explain to the consumer why they can’t live without your products so that they have a reason to act on the compelling graphics.
