Legal Services Business Cards

Whether you run your own firm, are a paralegal, or provide consulting services to the legal industry, your business cards are a critical bridge to your clients. Before you offer your card, and the customer accepts it, consider these points as the legal services industry has unique standards.

Minimalist Design
Be very careful when designing your cards. Legal services business cards should be very simple without gaudy graphics or over-the-top pictures. A simple design that gives clients your basic contact information is all that is needed on the front of your card.

Two trends have emerged in recent times: no pictures and no doubling up on email + URL. Unless your firm has always had the practice of putting your mugshot on your business cards, avoid your picture when possible. If your email address has your website in it, there is no need to put your website address, too. So if your email address is you@yourfirm.com, don’t put www.yourfirm.com underneath your email address. It’s just redundant, repetitive, and superfluous.

Titles and Education
For the attorneys, it’s perfectly appropriate to go with the J.D. or Esquire (Esq.) designation after your name, even if your card has the term “attorney” in your title. If you have other education, such as an MBA, most opt to list this is well, but after the J.D. or Esq.

Titles are critical. Think of this as your personal tagline. You want your clients to know what it is you do. If you have a generic title, such as Sr. Counsel, consider using the back of your business card to explain details, awards, or other points that your clients might find useful.

Careful Color
If you do want to use color, use with caution. Changing color for font types is a great way to add classy color without using too much. A solid background is another way to breathe color into your card, but avoid gradients or graphics. A color logo is another great way to get color without going overboard. Think simple and elegant and your cards will look quality and professional.
