Political and Military Business Cards
Business cards are critical for politicians and members of the armed services. As public servants, your constituents should be able to get in contact when they need you. Because of the unique role you have in our society, there are special considerations you should bear in mind when getting your political and military business cards made:
Security First
Keep the information on your card limited to the least amount of information as possible. Avoid actual physical addresses unless absolutely necessary. Your organization’s email address, not your personal email, should be the only email information on your card. Avoid listing LinkedIn, Twitter, or Facebook accounts unless you are extremely disciplined with what you post.
Simple is Better
If your organization has a seal or logo, always put this on the front of your card. Other than that, limit the graphics to the bare minimum. Political and military business cards are notorious for their simplicity, and if you are not careful your design can come off as gimmicky if you break from this tradition too much.
A recent trend is to omit your organization’s website if your email address has this information already. For example, if your email address is you@your-org.mil, then do not list www.your-org.mil underneath your email address as this is redundant. Since your formal email contact information should be the only one listed on the card, then this will likely apply to your political and military business cards.
Backup Plan
Use the back of your card for any extra information you might need to include. Keep security in mind as you do not want to list too much information. However, if you are in charge of specific committees or commands, this might be worth listing on the back of the card. You may also list awards or accolades in this space if it will help your constituents understand the best way to utilize your abilities.
