Word of Mouth Marketing Success

Traditional word of mouth advertising involves doing an exceptional job and then relying on your satisfied customers to spread the word. While this is an effective method, it takes a really long time to build a successful business this way. Here are some things you can do to speed up the process.

Tell Everyone About Your Business
You should be prepared to tell everyone you come into contact with about your business. It might seem awkward at first, but the more you do it, the more natural you will feel. You never know who might need your goods or services. You should be sharing what you do with your hair stylist, tax accountant, dentist, and anyone else you run into. Even if they do not need your offering, they might know someone who does, and they can refer you, especially if you gave them a business card or printed postcard.

Expound on Your Achievements
When you tell people about your business, you should do so in glowing terms. You are an expert at what you do, so give people confidence in you by having confidence in yourself. Also, if you have any achievements, awards, or accreditation, you should mention some of those as well. You can include some of this information on your business cards and other marketing materials. If people see that you have been successful, they are more likely to want to do business with you.

Write Articles for Your Local Newspaper
One way to help people to see you as an expert is to write articles on your specialty for your local newspaper. If you offer your articles free of charge, your local paper will likely be happy to print them.

Carry Business Cards Everywhere
You should carry business cards wherever you go. Hand them out to your dry cleaner, the checkout girl at the grocery store, and other parents you meet at your son's little league games. It is also a good idea to carry other people's business cards with you as well. If someone you are having a conversation with mentions needing some kind of service, they will appreciate you referring them to someone you use. After you help them out, they will be more receptive to taking your business card as well.

Present Yourself as a Professional
Whenever you go out in public, be it to the store, soccer practice, or the salon, you need to remember that you represent your business. For that reason, you should always look presentable and treat everyone courteously. Even the most sour person in a check-out line has the potential of being your most loyal customer.
