Travel and Accommodation Postcards

If you work in the travel and accommodation industry, postcard printing is still a very viable marketing option for you. In fact, of all the industries, yours has the biggest advantage! Postcards are commonly used by people who are traveling to send greetings to folks back home. What better way for you to market your services than with postcards of a distant location?

Market your location
If you offer services at a tourist location or if you offer a way for tourists to reach their destinations, postcards are a great way to show off the location. Big, beautiful photos of a getaway are exciting for customers to receive in the mail and a wonderful way to connect your brand with a positive impression. Keep graphics clean and clear, avoiding overly commercialized graphics. The more it looks like a postcard from a friend, the better.

Use coupons for a call to action
You don’t want to just inspire the customer’s imagination, you want to call them to action. Travel and accommodation postcards should always include a message that drives the recipient to call you or check out your website. One way to do that is to include a coupon with a time limitation. This creates psychological pressure and encourages them to act immediately.

QR codes
A modern marketing method for driving people from a printed ad to a digital website is through the use of QR codes ― those square, bar-code looking graphics you’ve likely seen around. They’re free to use and create with no licensing required. This lets you send postcard recipients to a unique web page for more information.

Design tips and considerations
So you’re convinced! Well, don’t forget a couple of important design tips.

  • Your designs should be 300dpi at a minimum to ensure that your images are crisp.
  • The post office just upped the price for postcards by $.03, so be aware of this in your ROI calculations. Postcards are still well worth their weight and three cents shouldn’t be a game-changer.
  • Keep the design simple. The front of your postcards should be bright, bold graphics with a very short message. The back can be more content-oriented with service descriptions and contact information.
  • Lastly, don’t forget your brand! A simple logo is always important and doesn’t have to be prominent to be effective.
