Tips for Designing a Business Card for Artists
A business card should reflect your personality and style, no matter what type of business you are in, but this is especially true for professionals in a creative industry. When your business is art, then your marketing tools should demonstrate your creativity. In addition to being creative, artists’ business cards need to be functional. This is what presents a difficulty for many an artist, but it does not have to be a problem for you. You can design professional and artistic business cards by incorporating the following tips.
Tip #1: Represent Your Art
This one should be a no-brainer. Your art must be a part of your business card design, partly because it is a chance to demonstrate your talent but also because it serves to identify you. Think about the environment of an art show. Buyers, no doubt, will have looked at many different art pieces and will have received a business card from as many artists. They may not remember you, your name, and what you look like. But, their memory of you will probably be triggered by a picture of your art work.
Tip #2: Consider Including a Picture of You
As mentioned above, your potential buyers may not remember your face or name. One way to keep your face on their minds is to place a picture of yourself on your business card. The picture of you should represent what you look like most of the time. If you have a favorite hat or accessory, wear it in the picture so that you are easily recognizable.
Tip #3: Keep the Design Clean
This is a tip that all great business card designers hold fast to. A cluttered business card is not only unattractive, it is also hard to read. Your business card should be simple and have plenty of white space allotted. Get too carried away with showing off your art work and your talent along with contact information will get lost in the clutter.
Tip #4: Include the Essentials
At the very least, include your name, phone number, and website. Your email address and physical address can also be included depending on the situation. Displaying your contact information in a clear and organized way will make your business card even more effective. Make your name the largest font and listed first. Your contact information should be a slightly smaller font, but no smaller than 10 pt. The font style you choose should be easily legible. You may really like how that script font looks, but if it is not readable, then your card may get tossed in the trash.
