Stickers and Street Teams
Many artists and musicians fail to use one of the most powerful advertising methods available: street teams. Additionally, sticker printing is one of the most potent and price effective methods of marketing. Believe it or not, you can combine these two advertising and marketing systems to be an incredibly powerful tool for you.
Sticker printing
First of all, you need stickers that will grab attention. Make sure to include a website and a band name on any stickers you distribute. Make sure you are in tune with your audience. Black lettering on a white background doesn’t work too well for rock and roll. Rather, use dark, edgy color schemes. Finally, make sure you order bulk for your sticker printing project, as this will save you a lot of money in the long run.
Street teams
Thanks to social networking sites, such as MySpace and Facebook, just about any artist or band can develop a following within targeted communities. When you know you have a show coming up, begin building a fan base and connecting with people in that area.
About two weeks before the show you should contact your friends in these communities and see if anybody would be interested in helping you promote your show. About a week before the show, you should have promotional materials in their hands. Of course, posters are great for letting people know when and where you’re going to play. More importantly, though, give your new street team as many stickers as you can afford, or at least within reason. Stickers are considerably cheaper to print than posters and, therefore, can go farther.
Combining sticker printing and street teams
Where the rubber meets the road for this system is when you can motivate your street team to pass out stickers. Remember, your name and web site are on your stickers. Your fans know when and where you are playing so they can mention this as they hand the stickers out.
One of the many are reasons this marketing method is so effective is that your fan base will be handing out stickers at clubs and venues. This means your street team is connecting with the perfect potential customers.
Final thoughts
A word of caution: make sure your street team is not putting your stickers in inappropriate places. They should be handing stickers directly to people and very little else. This will prevent you from getting in trouble later.
So give this sticker printing and street team advertising trick a whirl for your next show. You may be surprised at how well it works.
