4 Graphic Design Secrets to Business Cards

Business cards can either make an amazing first impression on new contacts or they can turn people off. When designing cards for business card printing, here are some important guidelines to follow to ensure that your cards look professional.

Use Color Properly
The colors you use need to contrast with well each other. Your text and your background need to have enough contrast that you can read the card easily. Other elements on your business card printing design should have contrasting colors as well to add excitement.  Try blue with orange or yellow with purple. You may even want to test out colors on physical paper before making a decision. Whatever contrasting colors you choose, make sure that they match your business’ personality.

Align Elements
Be sure to align the text and graphics properly when business card printing. Choose either right, left, or center alignment for your text. Then line up any images you use with the top or bottom line of text. Leave at least a 3mm border around the edges of your card so the text does not seem as if it is running off the page.

Keep It Cohesive
Repeat elements throughout your business card printing design. This is especially important if you print on both sides of the card. Use the same font and colors on both sides of the card.

Only use two fonts on your business cards. Use one font for the logo and another for all other text. Remember, repeating elements on your card will help the design look professional.

Group Like Elements
Put similar elements together on your business cards. Group all contact information together. Put your logo and tagline together. If you are including a discount or special offer on your business card, put all of this information in one place.

In addition to following these elements of design, keep the design of your business cards true to your business’ personality. If you have a conservative business, use traditional fonts and subdued colors. If you run a more light-hearted business you can use playful colors, fonts, and images. Remember that your business card will give many people their first impression of your business, so make sure your use of graphic design elements is both professional and memorable.
