Foil Hang Tags

Classy Hang Tags for High-End Products

Foil hang tag printing lets your products sell themselves by hooking customers in. Our lovely foil hang tags can outperform ordinary hang tags thanks to its sophisticated look and feel.

You can use foil hang tags to accentuate design elements and give them a metallic sheen. The metallic foil can bounce of light and draw the attention of any customer.

This opens up you hang tags to other design possibilities. Let your logos shine in gold, silver, or copper. You can highlight text you’d like your customers to focus on. Use foil hang tags to show pricing information and other product details in an eye-catching fashion.

This is what makes them ideal for high-end retail products. They are often used as custom hang tags for clothing or as price or gift tags.

Resilience Meets Beauty

While better known for their luxurious looks, our foil hang tags are as tough as they come. These are printed on 16 pt. cardstock which is half the thickness of a credit card.

Having thick hang tags is important especially when displayed in an open environment. They would most likely go through the hands of several customers before purchase. Having sturdy hang tags will keep your products looking pristine.

Silky Smooth

Our custom foil hang tags are silk laminated. This process gives your hang tags a low-luster, silky smooth finish. It blends wonderfully with foil stamping. Not only will your hang tags look premium, but they’ll also have a layer of protection against dust and moisture.

Spot UV Goodness

To make certain text stand out, you can apply spot UV to parts of your design. It’s a high-gloss coating you add to specific areas to make your personalized clothing labels shine even brighter.

Use this to emphasize your business name and other key areas you want customers to focus on.

Foil Printing File Requirements

Keep in mind the following file requirements below as you create a design using our downloadable templates:

  1. The font size should be a minimum of 7 or 8 points. Avoid printing small text or fine lines in foil.
  2. Border and stroke must be more than 1.5 points.
  3. Images and artwork should be at least 300 DPI.
  4. All files should be in CMYK color mode.

How to Prepare Your Design for Foil Printing

  1. Create two files that differentiate the areas printed in regular ink from the elements with foil printing.
    1. The regular CMYK file shows which areas are printed in ink. The elements should show their actual colors and sizes on print.
    2. The foil printing file only shows the elements that will be printed in foil colors. The element(s) that will be printed in foil should have the same location as seen on the CMYK file. Apply 100% K on the foil area and place the rest of the file in white.

The images below show the difference between the two files:

How to Add Spot UV Elements to Your Artwork

You can also print an artwork with both foil and spot UV elements.

This requires a third file that shows the spot UV areas, which you can create through the following steps:

  1. Apply a 100% K to the areas with spot UV printing.
  2. Make sure the spot UV file has the exact same size as the CMYK and foil printing files.
  3. On the CMYK file, add a 1/16” gap between the spot UV and foil areas.

Foil Hang Tag Templates

Our layout templates will show you how to format your artwork. This ensures your hang tags print correctly. Follow the steps below to prepare your product for foil printing:

  • Create two layers on your file.
  • The first layer shows the design in regular CMYK color
  • The second layer shows which areas will be printed in foil. Color all portions for foil printing in 100% K. All other sections that will be printed in regular CMYK should be colored white.

The Keys to Designing Effective Foil Hang Tags

Hang tags are simple marketing tools that give retail products a chance to send the right message to customers. To make the most of them, you need to really think deep about the design and how they could really stand out.

Here are some ideas that could help you get past the design hurdle.

  • Keep It Simple – The oldest trick in the book. Given the limited space, you must condense all the information to digestible chunks. It’s easy to go overboard especially when you have a lot to say. But having too much information can overwhelm the customer.
  • Use Bold Colors – Keeping it simple does not mean having flat colors. The right color combination will engage customers.
  • Highlight Details – The nice thing about foil hang tag printing is that they let you choose areas you want to highlight. Make sure you put the spotlight in the correct areas.
