How to Install Window Graphics Without Bubbles

• Spray bottle with water (Optional: Add a few drops of dish soap)
• Squeegee or credit card
• Lint-free cloth or paper towels
• Masking tape or painter’s tape for (Optional, but highly ideal for large graphics)
• Measuring tape and level (Optional)

 

How to Apply Static Window Clings

1. Clean the Glass 
Clean the glass thoroughly to remove dust, grime, or fingerprints. Next, dry the surface with a lint-free cloth.

2. Align Using Tape 
Use a measuring tape to find the exact center, then make tiny erasable marks or use painter’s tape to mark your boundaries. For large or vertically oriented window graphics, using a level is ideal to ensure your markings are perfectly straight.

3. Lightly Mist the Glass (Optional) 
For larger window graphics (i.e., more than 12 inches), the wet method is highly recommended because it reduces air bubbles and makes repositioning easier than the dry method.

4. Peel the Backing 
Remove the cling from its backing sheet, making sure there is no lint or dust on the cling side.

5. Apply the Cling
Place it onto the wet glass, sliding it around until you find the right position.

6. Smooth the Surface 
Using a squeegee or an old credit card, start from the center and push outward to remove any excess water or air bubbles.

7. Wipe Dry 
Remove any excess water around the cling.

Pro Tips 

• If the graphic won’t stick, lightly mist the cling side again.
• Static clings work best on smooth glass surfaces.
• Avoid textured or dirty glass, as it prevents the static window clings from bonding well onto the surface.

 

How to Apply Adhesive Vinyl or Permanent Decals

1. Clean the Glass Thoroughly 
Use glass cleaner or soapy water to remove dust, grease, and fingerprints. Next, dry the surface completely using a lint-free cloth.

2. Test Placement With Hinge Technique 
Because permanent decals have adhesive backing, they require more precision during installation than static clings. Thus, we highly recommend the “hinge technique” to help you align them before committing.

This involves placing a vertical strip of painter’s tape across the center of the decal to anchor it to the glass surface while the backing is still on.

3. Peel the Backing 
Carefully remove the backing, avoiding touching the adhesive side with your fingers.

4. Lightly Mist the Glass and the Adhesive Backing (Optional) 
Lightly mist the window and the adhesive backing with water (or soapy water). For larger decals, the wet application method is highly recommended to prevent instant sticking and reduce air bubbles.

5. Apply the Decal 
Place the decal on the glass and adjust its position while its adhesive backing is still wet.

6. Squeegee It Smooth 
Squeegee out any excess water and air bubbles using firm, even pressure.

7. Let It Set 
Wait about 10–30 minutes (longer for large decals) for the adhesion to cure.

8. Remove Transfer Tape (If Applicable) 
If your permanent decal comes with a transfer tape (it’s on top of the graphic), peel it slowly at a sharp angle, almost flat to the glass. In case the graphic lifts as you remove the transfer tape, simply press it back down and peel it off again.

9. Final Drying 
Avoid cleaning or touching the window graphics for 1-2 days to allow the adhesive to fully cure.

Pro Tips 

• Work slowly — rushing causes wrinkles.
• For large decals, it is ideal to start the application from top to bottom.
• If air bubbles remain, gently push them out with a squeegee or pop them with a pin.
• Installing a larger window decal (i.e., more than 2 feet) usually requires two people to prevent it from rolling and sticking to itself.

 

Wet Method vs. Dry Method for Window Graphic Installation

We highly recommend using the wet method for most window graphic installations because it offers these benefits:

• Easier to handle without the vinyl folding onto itself.
• Helps avoid stretching or tearing complex cuts.
• When installing permanent decals, it’s easier to correct mistakes, as you can slide, align, and reposition the graphic on the glass without it prematurely sticking.

Meanwhile, the dry method is best reserved for small window clings (i.e., 12 inches or less) and perforated window films.

The dry installation method is the safer option for perforated window films, as water or other liquids can get trapped in the tiny holes, potentially ruining the adhesive and obscuring the graphic.
